Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Ia葯i (TUIASI) will inaugurate Thursday, 18 May 2023, during Tudor Vladimirescu Campus Days, the newest park completely overhauled by a student project. Phoenix Park is located between T1 鈥 T2 dorms, at the campus entrance, and was renovated with the help of BorgWarner, Ia葯i Community Foundation, and Ia葯i City Hall, with a project value of 120,000 euros.
The solution contest was won by Vlad-Denis Cozmei, student at the Faculty of Architecture, who was awarded 400 euros and got to supervise the implementation of his concept on a 3,000 square metre space.
鈥淲e wanted to renovate the park taking into consideration what the students want, what they need to have a memorable experience during their study years, not just a phase towards a successful career. This is why all the new green areas on campus have been rehauled following contests where students proposed their own vision and projects鈥,
said Associate Professor Lidia Gaiginschi, PhD. Eng., Vice-rector Student Affairs
The project was made possible thanks to the BorgWarner Fund for Education, where TUIASI and Ia葯i Community Foundation chose Vlad-Denis Cozmei鈥檚 as the winner. His idea was funded with 15,000 euros for implementation.

Ia葯i City Hall helped by doing maintenance work valued at 55,000 euros, transforming one of the most transited areas at the campus entrance. The University also spent 60,000 euros on urban furniture, lighting and other administrative costs.
听鈥We want to be the first university in Romania that has a completely new, urban-regenerated campus. Old spaces that were once just alleyways are now part of the campus identity. They are places where students can meet, relax, work out, green areas carefully maintained鈥,
said Bogdan Budeanu, Campus Director.
This is the third significant green area on campus completely overhauled, after the park between dorms T3 鈥 T4 and Cezar Opri葯an Park (between dorms T9 鈥 T11), where the student festival is currently being held.
鈥淭he student life is filled with challenges and satisfaction. We鈥檙e happy to be among them, to contribute to the entertainment and educational activities. We鈥檙e a partner to TUIASI and its students and today we have the pleasure to be with the students on campus. Up until now, we have been a trustworthy educational partner, supporting the University in renovating laboratories and offering students multiple professional programs.
The new park offers a space suitable for interaction, a healthy lifestyle and experience-sharing. The festival brings students on the forefront, offering them fun activities and an opportunity to step into their professional life鈥,
said Andreia Zaharia, HR Manager at BorgWarner Romania.
Phoenix Park is split up into three areas:
- , with equipment recommended by WSWCF 鈥 World Street Workout And Calisthenics Federation
- game area (volleyball, badminton, table tennis)
- social area
The urban rejuvenation projects on campus have always been supported by the Ia葯i Community Foundation.
鈥淭hrough the BorgWarner Fund, Ia葯i Community Foundation supports education and student urban areas. Through these projects, we want to help modernise academic infrastructure and areas suited to non-formal learning. We hope that they will become a beacon for future collaboration between universities and the business sector, thus helping the city and the region develop. Phoenix Park improves students鈥 quality of life and the way they spend their time, encouraging a healthy lifestyle鈥,
said Ciprian-Mihai P膬iu葯, Ia葯i Community Foundation Executive Director.
